Handling, Health Supplements,
and Training of Your Birds

Handling: Once your birds arrive at the loft they will be vaccinated and electronic chips will be installed. Then the birds will be placed in a section with over 70 perches and will be allowed to go out on the landing board in a 4’by4’by 8’ high wire pen. This pen will stay like this for 1 week then the birds will be given open loft for 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks we will chase that group of birds off the landing board to insure all birds get up and moving and do not get lazy and dumb by just staying on the board. Each week the wire pen will be moved down the line to another section and the process starts all over. Each set of traps will do 2o sections for the weeks where we may get large numbers of birds in a week.

Health supplements: The first week your birds are here they will receive globals multi-mix in the water. After the 1st week they will get Primalac Probiotics in the water every other day and the days they do not get this they will have apple cider vinegar added. On Tuesdays they will get Winsmore added to the Probiotics and on Sunday they get Vita Kings Vita Pro Combo. Once a month we will do a treatment for canker through the entire loft.

Training: About 1 month before training starts we will begin to flag all the birds and will have them flying over an hour daily. Our first toss will be 5 miles and we will let the group out about a third at a time till we get to 50 miles. Once training starts we will train everyday weather permitting or unless we get a tough toss and the birds need a break. For those who have been in this race know we train our birds to compete in a combine environment not just come home to 1 loft. Since I still race myself all birds get the same treatment so you can get a true test of your birds with professional handling and training.

My own results: While doing the one loft race my own team side by side the one lofters won 1st combine overall average speed against 80+ lofts and was IF champion loft for old birds. I bred and raced an IF Hall of Fame young bird. In 2008 I was 1st club overall average speed combine 3rd average speed against 83 lofts. In 2009 I was 2nd overall average speed against 80+lofts and bred and raced another IF hall of Fame young bird. In 2010 I finished 5th combine average speed against 80+lofts. So as you can see our total program can and will get the most out of your little athletes!
